Accident

Accident. Gr. σνμβεβηκὸς. That which falls upon, occurs to, anything, as distinguished from the thing itself. The word is used in two senses: First, to denote the fifth Predicable, the Accident as distinguished from the Genus, Differentia, Species, and Property; and secondly, as a name for all that is connected with anything, but external to its real or supposed substance, such as qualities, relations, habits, &c. (see Substance).
