§ 16 – Three Leading Post-Aristotelian Schools of Philosophy

We come now to three leading post-Aristotelian schools of philosophy which, though standing in peculiar opposition one to another, yet are really to be regarded as belonging to the same organic movement of thought, and to have a common logical and psychological point of origin. They are known as the Stoics, the Epicureans, and the Sceptics (among whom may be included the Academicians).
