CATEGOREMATIC (κατηγορέω, to predicate).—»A word is so called which may by itself be employed as a Term. Adverbs, Prepositions, &c, and also Nouns in any other case besides the Nominative, are Syncategorematici.e., can only form part of a Term» (Whately, Logic, bk. II. ch. I. sec. 3).
